August 1st – 4th, 2019 marked the 25th year of the Arizona Dance Classic, and event directors Mona Brandt and Tim Perez remarked on how the event has grown and changed since it was started in Tucson in 1993 by Bob and Juanita Schoene. One of the highlights of this year’s event was the Arizona 2-Step State Championship on Friday night, with couples from all over the state competing for the title. Arizona 2-Step is a local dance, probably the most popular country social dance in Arizona. Other highlights of this 3-Day event were the Ballroom competition and Team Challenge on Sunday and the Saturday Night Dinner Show, which is always spectacular! This year, the show included the UCWDC Classic Masters Competition, with 4 couples competing, in addition to several great numbers from the Ballroom and Swing worlds – quite a show it was! And throughout the weekend, the energy was great in the Ballroom for the UCWDC ProAm, Couples and Line dance competitions. There were more line dancers than ever this year, with all the divisions populated, from Newcomer to Advanced and Showcase. 6 Open Division I couples took the floor on Saturday afternoon, for a great, high energy contest, competing for a title, and a point towards Masters. Not just for competitors, the Arizona Dance Classic caters to social dancers as well, with 40 workshops over the weekend with great instructors from the US and Canada. Also for social dancers, the Arizona Dance Classic had a dedicated Social Dance room each night, with a DJ playing a mix of music and taking requests! At the beautiful WeKoPa Resort, this event gives attendees a flavor of the southwest, in a comfortable relaxing environment. Many people even took time out to enjoy the pool, the spa and/or a round of golf! We hope you join us next year at the Arizona Dance Classic on August 6th – 9th, 2020. https://arizonadanceclassic.com/
