Dear UCWDC Members,

We are encouraged by the progress we are seeing around the world in resolving the COVID-19 pandemic. To see our regional events returning to live competition with safety measures in place is exciting.

In the interest of providing the safest possible dance environment, the Rules Committee of the United Country Western Dance Council announces a change to the ProAm, ProPro and Couples dance order for the 2021 Dance Season which will include the Country Dance World Championships in January, 2022.

Our goal is to reduce time spent in changing rooms where it is more difficult to maintain safe social distancing, keep fresh air circulating and keep masks in place.

Couples and ProAm/ProPro contests will be danced in this order:

1) Waltz, 2) Nightclub, 3) Triple Two, 4) West Coast Swing, 5) Two Step, 6) Cha Cha, 7) Polka and 8) East Coast Swing. The dance order is the same as Masters and Crown competition but will NOT be danced in flight format.

Because most line dancers have unique costumes for each dance, the order of Line Dances will not change.

The new dance order goes into effect immediately and will remain in effect through Worlds in January 2022. At the end of the Dance Season we will evaluate the state of public health and the effectiveness of the change before determining how we will move forward in future dance seasons.

While the safety of our dancers during the pandemic is the reason for the immediate implementation, Council members have been discussing changing the order of the dances for some time. This new order may be adopted as a rule moving forward.  We welcome your thoughts and feedback as we facilitate this change.

We remain cautiously optimistic that the 2021 dance season will find more of us back on the dance floor and at UCWDCÒ events.  Please take care of yourselves and each other.

Best wishes and happy dancing.

Kind Regards,

Beth Emerson
