Styles & Divisions
UCWDC® Partner Dance competitors may choose to compete in one or more of these eight dance styles:
- Triple Two
- Nightclub
- Waltz
- Polka
- Cha Cha
- East Coast Swing
- Two Step
- West Coast Swing
If you are unfamiliar with some of our dances, refer to our Newcomer level syllabi. These are available free of charge to anyone wanting to learn country dance.
The UCWDC also offers a range of competition age divisions based on age, skill, partnership type, and music format:
Age Divisions
Based on age at time of competing:
Juniors: ages 2-18
Open: age 18+
Crystal: age 30+
Diamond: age 40+
Silver: age 50+
Gold: age 60+
Platinum: age 70+
Pearl: age 80+
Skill Level
Based on judges’ scores and earned ascension:
Newcomer (I, II, III, IV)
Novice Intermediate
Advanced
All Stars
Crown: age 40+
Crown Plus: age 55+
Masters Plus: age 45+
Partnership Type
Based on who is in the partnership:
ProAm: one professional and one amateur dancer
ProPro: two professionals where one is instructing the other
Couples: two peers, neither one in an instructing role – both may be amateurs; both may be professionals
Musical Format
Based on the music and other requirements:
Classic: dancers perform their choreography to the music chosen by the event
Showcase: dancers perform their choreography to pre-selected music
Spotlight: ProAm partners dance either a Solo Medley or a Show Dance
